Warner Home Video Brings ‘Movies That Pop’ Exclusive Extra Content To Video On Demand (VOD) And Pay Per View (PPV)
(October 12, 2005 - Burbank, CA) – Warner Home Video’s On Demand group today announced that it has created exclusive extra content for its upcoming movies on Video On Demand (VOD) and Pay Per View (PPV). Beginning in December, Warner Home Video will provide unique movie “extras” for select titles that include select scenes played again at the end of the film in which “instant windows” of information appear on screen highlighting facts and figures about those scenes. Entitled MOVIES THAT POP, the movie’s enhanced scenes will include information about the actors and behind-the-scenes production details.
Available to nearly 40 million households that have digital cable or satellite, MOVIES THAT POP is free with select Warner Bros. title PPV and VOD purchases. Warner Home Video’s On Demand group developed this VOD and PPV exclusive extra feature that provides viewers with up to 15 minutes of enhanced content at the end of the movie. The selections provide insider information and movie trivia about three to five key scenes from the film through a series of title-branded instant windows or information bars that appear on-screen, revealing interesting and little-known facts about the film’s production. As a sell-in tool, Warner is also making a two-minute teaser for each movie available to be used in the FREE VOD sections or for satellite systems to run on their barker channels.
“MOVIES THAT POP has been created just for the VOD and PPV audiences, meeting their demand for additional content and providing cable and satellite operators with another opportunity to drive traffic to their premium services. This new feature creates another compelling reason for customers to order new releases,” said Ron Sanders, Executive Vice President and General Manager, North America, Warner Home Video. “Continuing its history of bringing innovative and exciting programming to consumers, Warner Bros. is pleased to be the first studio to create the MOVIES THAT POP feature exclusive for VOD and PPV,” he added.
According to a May 2005 Datamonitor report, “Video On Demand 2005,” a combination of increased marketing and greater content availability will help to boost interest in Video On Demand services. In fact, an internal “VOD and PPV Awareness and Usage” study conducted by Synovate showed that more than 20% of respondents would increase their VOD usage if the movies contained bonus materials.
"Batman Begins" will be released on December 3 as the first Warner Bros. movie with the exclusive extra content and the new fantasy favorite, "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory," directed by the critically acclaimed Tim Burton and featuring Johnny Depp, will be released on December 23.
Warner Home Video On Demand will back the release of MOVIES THAT POP with a full scale marketing campaign including customizable direct mail, radio and national on-air cable advertising. In addition, Warner Home Video On Demand will work with the local cable operators to use this as a unique selling point to encourage their customers to try VOD.
