“Eight Legged Freaks” Invades The Internet With 3-D Website Game, Interactive Banner Ad Contest And Creature Features In Online Campaign That Captures The Spirit Of Upcoming Comedy Thriller

Pictures has generated so much online activity for the July 19th release “Eight Legged Freaks” that some features have escaped the film’s official website and are creeping into the Internet via other websites, games, AOL instant messenger and message boards, and interactive banner ads. Visitors to the “Eight Legged Freaks” Website (www.eightleggedfreaks.com [2] or via AOL Keyword: Eight Legged Freaks) can stop swarming hordes of giant spiders before the out-of-control beasts annihilate humanity, in the 3-D video game “Let the Squashing Begin.” The game drops players into an abandoned mall where gargantuan arachnids are preparing to strike. Adopting the persona of one of the film’s heroes, Chris (played by David Arquette) or Samantha (Kari Wuhrer), players must navigate treacherous corridors teeming with mammoth tarantulas, spitters and jumping spiders in a climactic life-and-death showdown scene recreated from the film. Cheat codes, enabling players to advance in “Let The Squashing Begin” with somewhat less risk to virtual life and limb, will be available to online sharpshooters in a variety of hiding places including fan and entertainment sites, AOL message boards, banner ads and on the “Eight Legged Freaks” Website in the form of fast-moving spiders scuttling across the screen. Additionally, the film’s two-legged stars will be revealing cheat codes in upcoming broadcast interviews. “Let the Squashing Begin” can be downloaded from the film’s website for offline play and is currently highlighted on a number of Internet gaming sites. It will also be available free on mini-discs at a number of gaming, sci fi and genre conventions and more than 400,000 copies will be distributed as part of AOL’s 7.0 discs along with wallpaper, screensavers and spider-themed instant messenger buddy icons.
