The WB’s “Gilmore Girls” Find They’ve Got A Friend In Grammy-Winning Singer/Songwriter Carole King

(April 9, 2002 – Burbank, CA) — Legendary singer/songwriter Carole King (record-breaking 1970s album, “Tapestry”) will guest star on The WB’s hit dramedy “GILMORE GIRLS” on Tuesday, May 7 (8:00-9:00 p.m. ET). In the episode entitled “Help Wanted,” King portrays an irascible New Yorker who moves to Stars Hollow and creates quite a stir when she opens the town’s first music store, where a dazzling drum set changes the career plans of Lane Kim (Keiko Agena), Rory Gilmore’s (Alexis Bledel) best friend. King’s classic hit, “Where You Lead,” has served as the theme song for “GILMORE GIRLS” since the series premiered to rave reviews in October of 2000. In keeping with the series’ mother/daughter storylines, King re-recorded the song with her own daughter, singer Louise Goffin. King began her career as a teenager in the late 1950s, cranking out hit after hit for the top artists of the day. At the amazing age of 17, King had her first number one hit, “Will You (Still) Love Me Tomorrow,” co-written with her future husband Gerry Goffin and recorded by top “girl group” The Shirelles. Singer James Taylor had a mega-hit with King’s anthem “You’ve Got a Friend.” In 1971, King released her record-breaking solo album, “Tapestry,” which received the Grammy grand slam of “Best Record,” “Best Song,” “Best Album“ and “Best Female Vocalist.” At over 25 million units sold, “Tapestry” held the title of the best-selling album by a woman for 25 years.
